Item #47268 : Original era manufacture. A sepia tone image, named on the reverse in two places as G (George).W. Wilson, with a Nashua New Hampshire photographers backmark.The Historical Data Systems shows him serving in the 1st New Hampshire regiment from May to August 1861. In September 1862 he enlisted in Company I, 13th New Hampshire and was mustered out with his regiment at Richmond Va. in June of 1865.During the Civil War, the 13th New Hampshire suffered the loss of 5 officers and 84 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded, and an additional 92 enlisted soldiers to disease. They saw service at the Battle of Fredericksburg in December 1862, and the infamous "Mud March". in 1863 they were assigned to the Department of Virginia; returning to the Army of the Potomac in March of 1864.Additional combat was seen by the men of the 13th at Drury's Bluff, Bermuda Hundred, battles around Cold Harbor; they were held in reserve at the Mine Explosion before Petersburg, and had the honor of their colors being the first to enter Richmond.   Excellent research potential.
