Original era manufacture. A socket bayonet with a 17 inch polished steel blade with a blue finished shank and socket, and measuring 20 mm across the muzzle opening. The blade is clean and bright, with scattered areas of staining and light surface corrosion at the tip, and base of the blade.The black leather belt frog is well made, but of recent manufacture. The brass mounted black leather scabbard shows genuine age but I will go with it being of post era production, but of very good quality.Similar pattern bayonets were imported by both the Federal and Confederate Governments during our Civil War 1861-1865.
