Original era manufacture. Tarred linen body, with leather straps and brass fittings with steel connecting buckles. It represents the standard issue Federal Infantry knapsack of the Civil War. The knapsack displays typical tears and small holes in the painted fabric, however the leather straps are full length, and at present unbroken. All of the small steel connecting buckles are present, along with the brass strap hooks.A previous owner placed a small, cardboard box inside the pack to fill it out, and attached a small grey wool blanket on the top of the pack. He did a nice job and the pack displays very well.
