German Franco-Prussian Era Bavarian Artillery Officers Sword

Original era manufacture. This very attractive fighting quality sword was part of a large collection of world-wide swords we recently purchased. The gentleman who assembled the collection was active for over 40 years and enjoyed researching his acquisitions considerably. This example he identified as a Bavarian Artillery Officer, likely pre 1870. The polished steel blade measures 34 inches in length and is 1.25 inches in width at the ricasso. Floral etched panels extend midway down the blade length on each side. The blade is very clean with much of the original surface polish remaining. Brass basket guard, pommel and langets. Black leather wrapped grip with double strands of brass twisted wire binding. Dark steel patina scabbard with some light surface denting, brass suspension rings and scabbard bands. Nice old sword.
