Original period manufacture. A sound example of a WWI era large capacity military canteen. Gray wool cover with minimal moth damage, leather harness with a canvas and leather adjustable strap. The drinking cup appears to be of zinc coated steel, with some scattered staining from age.Overall the canteen is quite sound, except for the leather strap which holds the cup in place, the strap is broken in several places and is missing a portion of its length. The canteen remains quite sound for display, and represents a fairly difficult WWI era German canteen to find anymore.
