Original period manufacture. Sound 154 year old writing desk with a shield shaped name plate on its lid dated 1860. The name is Mary Bogue, so a good basis for further research is possible. All wood construction with brass hinges and keyhole escutcheon. When the desk is opened partitions for pens and inkwells are located in the upper end of the desk along with two, paper lined compartments for paper and envelopes. The tops of the compartments once were covered in a maroon velvet material, most of which is now missing. Very sound overall.
