US WWI Officers Leather Bottomed Canvas Haversack, Identified, Medical Corps NCO
Item #65912 : Original era manufacture. A French made (Nantes 1916) khaki canvas haversack, which must have been the inspiration for the WWII era US M1936 Musette Bag. Russet Brown leather reinforced bottom, complete with all securing straps, detachable shoulder strap and fittings. Identified to John Heisey, Hospital Sgt. E.H.#28 U.S.A. Doing a quick look on Ancestry I found an Ohio soldier, John J. Helsey, born in 1895, who started out in the Field Artillery, later serving as a Hospital Sgt attached to Evacuation Hospital 28 in France. This has been printed off and placed inside the haversack.
