Item #66013 : Original era manufacture. Standard WWI aluminum messkit with a nicely decorated lid portraying an American eagle and flag with a shield bearing the numbers 333, above is Hv.F.A.. On the side is Enlisted Feb. 26th 1918, Camp Grant. Primarily consisting of National Army soldiers from Illinois, these troops formed the 86th Infantry Division. Arriving in France in the early Fall of 1918, they were used primarily as replacements for the depleted divisions of the AEF then fighting in the Meuse-Argonne. The messkit was once part of the Jane A. Kimball Trench Art Collection.
