Original era manufacture. Standard pattern 1889 sword made by E&F Horster, Solingen. The polished steel blade measures 32.5 inches in length, with the Horster name on the reverse ricasso. The blade runs straight and true, with a bright luster to the finish, sharp point and justa touch of light corrosion pitting.Steel basket guard which is decorated with a Chinese dragon, dark brown bakelite grip, with a ribbed design.Steel patina finish scabbard with two fixed suspension rings, very light scattered denting to the surface. One throat screw is missing. An example of this sword can be seen on the Australian War Memorial website, withan identical pattern of scaling to the body of the dragon. Their example was brought back from Chinaby a member of the Victorian Naval Contingent in 1900.
