Item #62446 : Original era manufacture. A private purchase quality hat, of a regulation pattern. Dark blue wool body, with a bound, black painted leather visor with leather chinstrap secured by two eagle buttons. Black mohair piping around the upper edge of the cap band, on each side and front and back of the body. On the crown is a single strand formed into a quatrefoil. This single strand of piping could be only decorative, but it may also indicate the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Silver wire, hand embroidered infantry bugle attached to the front of the hat body. Black polished cotton lining with a black painted leather disc at top. Scattered mothing, primarily on the right upper edge of the body below the crown.
