US WWI Era, Navy Commander Dress Epaulettes & Hat, Named, Navy Cross Winner 1918

Item #64746 : Original era manufacture. Fine quality set of full dress belt, epaulettes and fore & aft hat in the rank of US Navy Commander, named on the lid of the storage box to Radford Moses. The set was sold by the British firm of Gieve, Mathew & Seagrove and is so marked on the lid with a brass shield. Radford Moses was born in 1889 and died in 1960, being a graduate of the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis in 1909. He was awarded the Navy Cross in 1918 for distinguished service in the line of his profession in organizing, equipping and securing personnel and establishing the Repair Base for torpedoes at Queenstown, Ireland, which maintained in operating condition torpedoes for all destroyers in European waters during World War I. He was one of the earliest noted recipients of this prestigious medal and is buried with his wife Emma May at Arlington National Cemetery, where his retirement rank is shown as Captain.
