Item #56261 : Original period manufacture. 1945 dated US Navy Good Conduct Medal named on the reverse to Robert E (Eugene) Blomquist. Minor fraying to the ribbon, slot brooch suspension. Robert Blomquist served aboard the Battleship USS Idaho BB-42 from 31 August 1943, until 1 March 1946. During that time the Idaho and her crew were quite active in the Pacific Theater of WWII. Seeing combat in the bombardments of Makin Atoll, Kwajalein, Saipan, Guam, Battle of the Philippine Sea, Peleliu, Iwo Jima, Okinawa where on the 12th of April 1945 she was credited with the downing of five Japanese Kamikaze aircraft, with slight damage from a near miss. She entered Tokyo Bay on the 27th of August, and was present during the Japanese Surrender, 2 September 1945.
