US WWI Named USMC NCO Dress Coat & Trousers, 1915-16 Dated
Item #67027 : Original era manufacture. Dark blue wool USMC enlisted dress coat, size marked 3-M, date of 1915-1916 in the left shoulder. The blurred name M. E. Winger is stenciled in blue ink on the inside of the right shoulder lining. On each sleeve is a 1904 style USMC Gunnery Sergeant chevron machine sewn to the wool. I found one 4x6 mm moth bite on the right sleeve below the chevron. Full complement of USMC buttons, no collar emblems, never had any. Size about a 38 regular. Correct pattern USMC wool trousers with the NCO stripe down the outside of each leg. The name M.E.WINGER is stenciled in two places on the inside of the waistband, no issue marks to be seen. There is a very small moth bite in the seat of the trousers, and a well done repair below the fly. Waistband measures 32 inches and the inseam 33 inches. Overall a very clean and presentable set. Ancestry has a number of listings for a Michael E. Winger who enlisted in the Marines in July 1915, with records ending in August 1919. A printed copy of several Ancestry pages is included with the uniform set.
