Original era manufacture. US M1878 Canteen with a tan canvas cover. The canteen is complete with its original cork stopper secured to one of the triangular loops found on each side of the body. It also has the proper narrow pattern original leather shoulder strap with brass fittings. The cover is stained from age and use with faint markings on one side. The canteen body is not severely dented and the cover is not torn. The strap is complete, the leather dry with flaking to its surface.
