Aliens in the backyard
We planted this South American cactus over the winter and it sat fairly dormant until about 3 weeks ago. It began growing these enormous pointed growths on its arms. One night last week they began blooming and produced these giant white flowers. They lasted about a day and then closed up again. Maybe this is how they grow new arms. In any case it was a spectacular display for a little plant. It stood about 20 inches in height when it began.
