Item #68683 : Original period manufacture. Large format check drawn on the Bank of California in San Francisco, and issued by the First National Bank, located in the town of Tucson in 1883. The town of Tucson received their charter that year, with a population of a little over 7,000 souls.In addition, the Northern & Pacific Railroads completed their line from St.Louis to California through the northern part of the Territory. In the south, The Southern Pacific Railroad finished it's line from New Orleans to Los Angeles, passing through Tucson and Yuma. The United Verde Copper Company established it's mining operation in Jerome.In the south, the Bisbee Massacre took place, a botched robbery which resulted in the murder of five bystanders, and the ultimate hanging of five of the perpetrators in Tombstone.
