Original period manufacture. This wonderful old sword formed part of a large sword collection we purchased several years ago. We like it so much, we put it back in our own eclectic collection of edged weapons. Well, something else has come along that we just "have to have", and now it's for sale. The flat backed steel blade measures 33 inches in length, with a clipped point, and raised etching on each side of the blade. On the obverse ricasso is a deeply struck, old fashioned Eickhorn trademark, and above, a cloud-shaped panel, displaying the owners name, F (Freiherr or Baron) H. Hauptmann. On the reverse of the blade a similar raised floral decoration can be seen, and in a larger panel, the retailers information, stating their status as a Royal Household provider in Vienna (Wien). There is a very clear Damascus pattern on the blade spine, and both sides of the blade, extending all the way to the point. The blade is clean, with a few scattered spots of age darkening, with a slight drift to the left about 10 inches back from the tip.Ornate pierced basket hilt, and combined back strap and pommel with a nickel finish. Fish skin wrapped grip with single twisted wire binding. The nickel finished steel scabbard is nearly dent free, with a small surface dent just above the drag. The finish shows age and wear, but matches the finish on the guard very well.
