Original era manufacture. A fine quality high ranking officer or official's fore and aft hat with its original, very elaborate storage box. The box being a marvelous item in it's own right.The body of the hat is of brushed fur with wide bands of decorative gold brocade on each side, with an elaborately embroidered Franz-Joseph cypher in gold wire and black velvet on each end. Wide white morrocan leather sweatband, with a white silk lining with a Moritz Tiller makers stamp in gilt. The transport/storage box is of black molded leather with a maroon cotton lining, and a slip-out inner casing with a separate compartment in the center for waistbelt storage. There are two protective chamois covers for the ends of the hat, and two securing straps which reach over each end, and lock the hat in place inside the case.Great looking period label on the fold-down cover.
