Original era manufacture. British 1845-54 pattern Infantry officers sword, identified as belonging to John Trevor Spencer, 1859-1906, who served as LTC of the Essex Regiment. Polished steel blade measures 32 inches in length, retailers name on the reverse ricasso Jones & Co. 6 Regent's St. London. 44th Foot emblem on the blade, with the last battle honor being Taku Forts. The initials J.T.S. appear below the Spencer family crest. The blade runs straight and true, has a gloss to the surface, with a darker patina and a few small spots of surface corrosion. Dark brass patina basket guard with Victoria cypher, fish skin wrapped grip showing wear with exposed areas of wood visible, the twisted wire binding is sound. Steel service scabbard with considerable wear to the drag showing that this sword has been carried. Comes with several pages of research.
