Original era manufacture. Black japanned steel box with a folding handle at top and a brass nameplate which reads Major O'Brien 73rd Regt. The surface of the can shows scattered areas of rust, some of it fairly deep but no holes. The top opens and closes easily and the securing latch does its job. Scattered denting and dings. Excellent research potential due to the nameplate.
