Original period manufacture. This is an interesting relic, and a bit of a shame as well. This 18x1x8.5 inch oak board was part of a lot we recently purchased at a large 19th century era militaria auction. At top center of the board is a porcelain plaque bearing the number 104, and at the bottom center is a 1.5x3 inch copper plate which has been engraved with the following; "British Pistol, found on the Battlefield of Waterloo by Mr. R. Woolton, July 1895.You can see a faint fade line from where the pistol laid against the wooden plaque for many, many years. The unfortunate aspect of this display board is that the pistol was likely sold at the same auction. The size of the collection was enormous, over 2200 lots, with some lots containing up to a dozen items. During the assembly of the lots for bid the two were separated, and likely never to be reunited.
