Original era manufacture. Polished steel double edged blade which is maker marked Sanderson Sheffield with a date of 12-97. The blade is clean, with light staining and minor speckling, with the finish having a nice shine to it. Interestingly, both sides of the blade have been expertly sharpened to about five inches from the tip. I believe this was done to allow the bayonet to be used as a cutting tool in addition to its bayonet duties.Sound original finish wooden grips secured by two large brass rivets, with an oil lubrication hole for the lock button just behind one rivet. Steel patina finish to the guard and pommel.Very sound brown leather scabbard with an integral belt loop. In the book "British & Commonwealth Bayonets" by Skennerton and Richardson, this is identified as the patter Land MkII* scabbard. The scabbard body is Broad Arrow proofed and looks to be dated '03.
