Original era manufacture. 22 inch polished steel blade with a sawback spine. Cast brass hilt with a lion head decoration on the pommel. The blade shows evidence of old cleaned corrosion but remains bright and clean looking. Maker marked by CRAVEN with a crown I proof. There is a bit of controversy regarding the use or issue of this pattern sword. Some call them Pioneer, while other sources state they were issued to soldiers armed with the Baker Rifle, with CRAVEN credited with a total manufacture of 650 pieces in the early part of the 19th century.
