Original period manufacture. We believe this to be a prop helmet, worn by an extra in the 1968 movie, "Charge of the Light Brigade". it is very well made and depicts the lancer helmet of the time fitted with a foul weather cover. Molded felt body & leather mortarboard top, covered with a paintedcloth in gloss black. There are non-functioning buttons on each side of the base of the mortarboard to give the impression of a cover being buttoned over the colorful helmet beneath. Linked brass chainchinstrap attached to two grinning brass side mountedskulls, emblems of the famed 17th regiment. Stitched front visor with a bound edge. The lining is of red cloth with a black leather sweatband. This thing is quite stout, and very well made. Size is a bout a 7 1/4 or 58. Light age and wear.I would hate to think what an original example of this helmet would cost, if one could even be found. Great display item.
