Original era manufacture. A nice honest set featuring the silver Egypt Campaign medal with an undated reverse, named on the edge to 5509 Pte.J.W.Long, Medical Staff Corps. Original ribbon with a clasp for Suakin 1885. Included at the time of our purchase is this original Khedive Star 1884-86 which is the proper type for this Egypt medal. The Stardisplays a very nice vintage silver wash, no doubt applied to it's surface back in the day to compliment the silver Egypt medal. I feel this is an original pair but the star is unnamed as issued. Copies of the medal rolls proving Private Long's qualifications for the Egypt medal and Suakin Clasp accompany the medals. Pairs such as this example were awarded with a variety of clasps for service in several of the unsuccessfulattempts to rescue General Gordon during the siege of Khartoum and the battles against the Mahdi and Osman Digna in the the latter years of the 1880's. Loads of research potential with these wonderful old medals.
