Original era manufacture. Silver Egypt medal with an undated reverseand clasp as issued for the campaigns which occurred in the Sudan during the struggles against the Mahdi and his followers. Original silver Suakin 1885 clasp which indicates service during the campaign against Osman Digna in the early part of that year until May of 1885. The naming on the edge is very worn, butwhat can be discerned is Dooly Transport, indicating that the awardee was one of the men charged with the guiding and care of a camel involvedin the transport of wounded. Since there is not a claspfor Tofrek, our man was spared the horrors of that close fight, but quite likely participated in the movement of the wounded back to the relative safety of Suakin. He may also have participated in the earlier battle of Hasheen and again helping with the transport of the wounded. Shows considerable wear as most of the Native awarded medals do, with edge knocksand dings and evidence of an old polish. Replacement ribbon.
