Original era photography. Mid-1850's era British ambrotype of a young soldier, possibly of the Somerset Light Infantry. The image comes with its original matt, frame and preserver with white backing; size 9th plate, 52 x 65 mm.The soldier is shown seated, wearing a pill-box pattern cap, white buff leather belt with the 1856 pattern cuff braiding on his tunic. In his hand he holds a pair of white knitted gloves and the tip of his swagger stick is visible. Minor image loss around the edges, with a horizontal scratch in the surface just above his head.
