Original era manufacture. Standard,British made Doughboy helmet of WWI. The liner is present, however the liner pad and rubber "doughnut" ring are missing. The chinstrap is full length, but broken on one side.Dark finish overall, with evidence of an old lacquer finish being applied to the surface. On the front is a nicely stenciled blue/white checkerboard design, similar to the US army 99th divisional insignia. Interesting, becausethe US 99th was not formed until mid-1918, and did not go overseas. However the British 34th Division also used the checkerboard design, and saw service in France beginning in 1916.There is an old adhesive tag applied to the inside rim, it reads; "helmet, British infantry 1916, divisional sign of the 34th Div. Chequerboard".
