Original era manufacture. Made of molded fabric, which has been varnished to hold its form, then covered in a black shaved fur, with a wide band of embroidered wire brocade front and rear.The sweatband is of tan colored Moroccan leather with a white silk bow at the back, with considerable staining to its surface.The front of the hat shows evidence of a large size insignia once being sewn to the body of the hat, with a small hole at the bottom for the shank and loop of a button.The hat is quite sound, and rather tall, measuring nearly 8 3/4 inches at its tallest point. Admiral of the Navy...Doorman at the Ritz? Who knows, neat old hat in any case.
