Original era manufacture. Polished, curved steel blade measuring 32 inches in length, with etched designs on both sides of the blade. The blade is clean, runs straight and true, with a few nail catchers in the cutting edge, and a slightly blunted point. There is a wide fuller on each side of the blade, scattered graying and spotting but no real corrosion issues.Ornate gilded brass guard with a crown GR cypher in the knuckle-bow, which attaches to a lionhead pommel cap with brass ring. The grip is wrapped in fishskin and bound with triple strand wire. No scabbard.This pattern sword saw service throughout the Napoleonic era, to include North America during the War of 1812. It was replaced with the long-lived, 1822 officers pattern sword.
