Original era manufacture. An interesting sword which may have Irish Army service use.In design it resembles the British pattern 1821-22 Light Cavalry Officers sword, yet the blade surface is without any decoration other than the W.Walscheid-Solingen on the reverse ricasso, and on the obverse, a brass disc, with the word "proved" surrounding a fleur-de-lis. On page 137 of British Army Swords 1786-1912, by Harvey Withers, this disc is identified as being used by Dolan & Company, Clowes & Woodward, Dublin.Overall the sword is in very clean condition, 33 inch polished steel blade with no issues, steel basket guard, back strap, with a decorative pommel. Fishskin wrapped grip, bound with triple strand wire.Dent-free polished steel scabbard with two suspension rings; steel patina surface with no pitting.
