Original era manufacture. A sound example of a British manufactured bayonet, which was imported into the United States by both the North & South, during the Civil War.17 inch polished steel blade with scattered areas of cleanable surface corrosion along its length. Proofed on the base E Crown 26. Mix of blue and corrosion patina on the socket, the locking ring turns easily.Early pattern scabbard with brass fittings, stamped into the frog stud are the numbers 66 over 210 (possibly a unit number, 66th Foot?) and on the throat itself a serial number 8103.The leather body is sound, no creases or breaks and the stitching has held up quite well.
