Original period manufacture. A massive award, with the main portion being 2.5 inch maltese cross, showing London silver proofs for the year 1938. I weighed the cross on our gram scale and it came back around 94 gram weight. Elaborate engraved dedication on the reverse, dated May 1939, and awarded to one George Warby, Order of Merit & Knighthood. Heavy red silk ribbon with three enameled clasps dated 1929, 1931 and 1939. The obverse is quite ornate with a gilded silver three dimensional buffalo head set with small rubies in the eyes, and a nicely enameled ribbon and buckle. Good research project, perhaps a WWI veteran or earlier. The Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB) is one of the largest fraternal organisations in the United Kingdom. The order started in 1822 and is known as the Buffs to members. The RAOB organisation aids members, their families, dependents of former members and other charitable organisations.Motto: No Man Is At All Hours Wise
