Original era manufacture.HMS GANGES was built in 1821, 16 years after Trafalgar, by local workmen, of teak in what was then known as Bombay in India. With 84 guns on 2 gun-decks, GANGES was classed a second rate ship of the line: a reference to the quantity rather than quality of a ships armament. The first rate ship, HMS VICTORY carried 104 guns on 3 decks and was half as heavy again as GANGES, although both were the same beam and approaching equal length The GANGES saw minor action in the Mediterranean but not the Crimea, before standing in the Pacific as the RNs last all sail flag-ship, and where there is now a town called Ganges in British Columbia on the west coast of Canada. Stands 3 inches in height, with a two inch top opening. Brass data plate.
