Original era manufacture. Classic Tschapka pattern helmet as worn by British Lancer regiments. This is a fairly complete enlisted model, missing only the plume, the yellow cords look to be from a later era. On the underside of the visor are a series of numbers, including 10 over 98, which may be the date, October 1898. Brass plate on the front displaying battle honors (including Waterloo) with a Queen's pattern crown at the top. The helmet retains it's original brass linked chinstrap which is backed with leather, the securing stitches have loosened and need to be resewn. The original black cloth lining material remains but is fragile, the leather sweatband is also intact, showing staining from a spill at one point. The small securing hook on the top of the mortarboard is missing.
