Original era manufacture. Polished steel, fighting weight blade, measuring 31.5 inches in length, with etched panels on each side. The blade is overall clean condition, no nicks in the cutting edge, displaying scattered ares of cleaned corrosion and light surface pitting.Waycott & Sons name on the reverse Gilded brass guard, short side folds down, lion head pommel, with a white fishskin grip bound with triple strand wire binding. Original gold wire officers sword knot wrapped around the guard.Black leather bodied scabbard with sound stitching, and matching condition gilded brass fittings throughout. The chape has evidently come loose at some point, and a previous owner has lightly glued it in position. It is securely held in position, you just can see a small bit of glue on the top edge.Overall a very sound example of a Royal Navy officers sword from the time of Queen Victoria.
