Original era manufacture. British Victorian Era, Infantry Officers Sword, Wilkinson manufacture, numbered on the spine, 5685. The polished steel blade measures 32.5 inches in length, with etched panels on each side, with the Wilkinson name on the reverse ricasso, and on the obverse, the star with proved disc. The etched panels display a floral design flanking the Royal Cypher for Queen Victoria, on the obverse, just above the ricasso are the etched initials of J.B.B. with the coat of arms of the Brooking family above. The blade runs straight and true, a few small nail catchers in the edge, with the surface displaying spotting and staining from age, but no real corrosion issues. Ornate brass guard and pommel, with a folding portion on the reverse side. Fishskin wrapped grip bound with triple strand wire. Even brass patina finish to the guard. Brass mounted black leather scabbard with two suspension rings and the Wilkinson shield on the reverse of the throat. The leather is not broken but does display considerable age, with a cut in the leather caused by the blade just below the lower suspension loop. John Bell Brooking was born in 1829 and died in 1871 at the age of 42. He served in the Royal North Lincolnshire Militia as a Lieutenant in 1855, and Captain in 1860. The sword comes with a file of paperwork and research on Captain Brooking.
