Original era manufacture. A beautiful and complete grouping of one John Tregonwell (1811-1885) as worn during his tenure as the High Sherrif of Dorset in 1871, an importantposition dating back over one thousand years. Superb quality of manufacture and in near new condition, a true time capsule with a great potential for further research. The set includes a double breasted scarlet wool coatee with white facings, and a full complement of Queen's crown silver buttons.Thick hand stitched silver wire embroidery on the black wool collar and cuffs. Beautiful and near new condition removable dress epaulettes in silver, black wool trousers with a wide silver brocade stripe down the outer seam of each leg, maroon silk sash, black beaver fur fore & aft hat with a removable red & white cock feather plume with it's own storage can, matching scarlet wool waistcoat, a beautiful, near new condition British court sword with a removable blade for storage asshown, with its orignal carrying frog and shoulder suspension belt and lastly,a period photograph of John Tregonwell wearing this ensemble. All of the above fit neatly into a japanned steel trunk withtray, with fitted compartments below. On the lid is an original brass tag nicely engraved with the name John Tregonwell Esq. As stated the overall condition of the set is beautiful, it has a very few, and quite small scattered mothbites, but overall the wear is minimal and to be expected in a set which is over 140 years old. This is a truly amazing set and unbelievably complete.
