Original era manufacture. Excellent quality construction of doeskin scarlet wool, piped in white with black wool collar and cuffs. There are nine Queen's crown buttons down the front of the tunic, and two in the back, each bearing the motto "Domini Dirige Nos" (Lord Direct Us) evidently the motto of the city of London. Opulent silver wire embroidery on both cuffs and collar, with heavy gold wire embroidered shoulder knots. The exterior of the coat exhibits some light scattered moth damage, commensurate with its age, which we guess to be around the 1870's. The quilted silk body lining is in poor condition, however the lower white wool lining of the coat is very sound.Abeautiful quality tunic now showing its age, but remaining quite impressive for display. Size about a 38.
