Original era manufacture. A nice looking, brass mounted old sword with a fishskin wrapped grip without wire binding. The 23 inch polished steel curved blade has a false edge running 7 inches back from the tip. On the obverse side of the blade the etched gothic letters S.C. and No.23 can be seen. The blade is very clean with evidence of a very old sharpening and some scattered spotting and graying. Simple stirrup type brass guard which had a spring lock at one point, no missing the press button. Brass mounted leather bodied scabbard with sound stitching. The leather has shrunk up a bit over the years and the blade tip has pierced the chape. Nice old sword.
