Original era manufacture. A blue wool cloth covered helmet with a cork body, gilded alloy fittings throughout, including the beautiful helmet plate with and enameled center, silver regimental riband and Queen's crown.Tan cloth lining with a label from Hawkes & Co. of London, intact brown leather sweatband. The body is sound, not crushed or broken, with its leather backed, gilded alloy chinstrap present. The spike is not a tight fit, perhaps a replacement from another helmet.Of note, after the Trent Affair, the Bedfordshire regiment was stationed in Canada during the American Civil War as defense against a possible US invasion.
