Original era manufacture. Typical soldiers private purchase walking, or swagger, stick with an alloy tip and top portion decorated with the regimental insignia of the famed Coldstream Guards. Hand stamped into the side of the wooden rod, just below the cap, is his service number and letters, 22463 CG. Using this information we did a search on Ancestry.com and came up with the following: Edgar Charles Cossey, Coldstream Guards, born in Effingham, Norfolk, who died of wounds on 25 August 1918. In addition, the medal rolls acknowledge the awarding of the Victory Medal, and British War Medal to his family. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission site gives additional details regarding the names of his parents and of his wife. He is buried at the St.Hilaire Cemetery extension at Frevent France, which contains 210 plots of soldiers of the First World War. The cap shows typical denting to its surface however the regimental insignia is not damaged.
