Original era manufacture. Standard pattern 1897 officers sword, with the retailers initials H H, London on the ricasso, possibly Hebbert & Hume, helmet makers, or perhaps Hole & Hayson tailors. Polished steel blade measures 32 inches in length, running straight and true with no nicks in the cutting edge. Etched design on both sides of the blade. The blade surface displays considerable spotting along its length but no evidence of deep corrosion pitting. The original leather bumper is present at the base of the blade. Polished steel guard with the cypher of King George Vth, steel back strap and pommel. Shagreen wrapped grip bound with triple strand wire. Leather bodied scabbard with intact stitching, with a steel throat and drag. Overall the sword exhibits honest age and service use.
