Original period manufacture. Scarlet wool officers quality doublet with bullion embroidered collar emblems for the Kings Own Scottish Borderers, shoulder rank for a 1st Lieutenant. Black wool cuffs and collar with gold brocade trim on the cuffs.Overall the doublet is quite clean, but does show some mothing on the lower right pocket edge, and on the interior as well. Pinned to the underside of one of the lower pockets is a Wm Anderson & Sons Edinburgh, tailors tag displaying the name W. Simpson Esq. Sept.08. Looking around on Ancestry I found a listing for a Lt. & QM Wm. Simpson of the KOSB, who earned a D.S.M. in 1915. Further research should be a fun project. This doublet formed part of our winnings during a recent militaria auction in Edinburgh.
