Original era manufacture. Polished steel blade measuring 31.5 inches in length, with frosted panels on both sides, deocorated with naval motifs. "Proof" mark on the obverse ricasso, and a retailer's name on the reverse. The blade is quite clean, there are some scattered spots of staining and surface corrosion; overall it is in very clean condition, running straight and true. Gilded brass guard, backstrap and lion head pommel. It appears to not have been cleaned in a long time, untouched, with most of the gilding remaining under the grime. Wrapped around the guard is an original Royal Navy sword knot. Shagreen wrapped grip, bound with triple strand wire. The black leather sword body is unbroken, with brass fittings throughout, with a very nice Royal Navy Outfitters emblem on the scabbard throat. The stitching remains sound, with only surface dryness to the leather. All in all, a very nice old sword with a great patina.
