Original era manufacture. An original British WWI medal trio, known affectionately as "Pip, Squeak & Wilfred". All presented to the family of 3-2992, PTE A. MUNRO. R. HIGHRS.Private Adam Munro was killed in action on May 9th, 1915 during the battles for Aubers Ridge. He has no known grave and is memorialized on the Le Touret Memorial. The Battle of Aubers Ridge has been described as an unmitigated disaster for the British troops participating in the attack; with a total of 32,000 casualties between 9 May-15 June, 1915, the sad result being an insignificant affect on the German positions.A lack of sufficient artillery ammunition led to the political scandal of the Shell Crisis of 1915.Two soldiers of the Black Watch earned the Victoria Cross for this action; David Finley and John Ripley. .
