Original era manufacture. A wonderful WWI grouping which we purchased last year, and just now getting to list it on our site after discovering it packed away under some boxes.Olive wool rigid frame visor hat with a black oilcloth sweatband, brown leather chinstrap and a darkened brass Royal Artillery emblem at front. The hat is sound, not crushed or broken, with the most serious of the moth damage being restricted to the area of the left side chinstrap button. The leather strap doing a good job of hiding the worst of it.Brown leather, five magazine pocket bandoleer with brass fittings throughout. The leather is pliable, no flaking or weakness visible, with some faint markings visible on thereverse.Large size olive wool five button tunic, with the two small darts in the body of the uniform just under the collar, a sure sign of a pre 1918 manufactured issue tunic. All of the brass general service buttons are present, and there are two brass belt support hooks in the back of the tunic. Matching insignia on each sleeve, with matching brass shoulder strap titles. The tunic does have some moth issues, the worst of which occur around the area of the left hip, rear. In spite of the mothing, the tunic presents very well, especially with the sleeve insignia, and a large size too, about a 42 regular. The brown leather boots are quite substantial, having hobnailed soles with steel reinforced stacked leather heels. There is lacing to be seen at the top front of the ankle area, and a tightening strap just below the knee on each boot. The leather is sound and pliable, not greasy or oily, showing some hobnail loss on the soles of each boot.In spite of its flaws this one of the few WWII British uniform groupings we have offered over the years, and remains a great looking set for display.
