Original era manufacture. A wonderful precision instrument, which formed part of the operational instruments in the iconic Supermarine Spitfire and other aircraft of WWII. Brass Air Ministry (AM) tag on the side of the casing. This is complete with its original wooden transport box, which is dated inside the lid 1944, with stenciled nomenclature front and back. At one time the box had a canvas carring strap or handle which has been removed. Missing one of the securing hooks on the front. The compass works properly, with a clear dial and markings.
