Original era manufacture. War Department, Broad Arrow marked, steel gasoline can with a fixed carrying handle at top. Brass, SHELL marked screw-cap, the top of the can is dated 1940. Fresh OD paint job with a neatly done "OIL" in white paint. Normal age and wear. These cans often were pressed into service as condensing cans for theVickers heavy machineguns.
