Original era manufacture. A beautiful quality uniform of scarlet doeskin wool with pale yellow wool collar and cuffs, with gold brocade trim, and a matched pair of silver & gilt collar insignia. On each shoulder, is a heavy gold wire epaulette with three stars for the rank of captain. The lining is of a fine quality quilted cotton, with red leather trim on the lower front edge. There is some scattered mothing, but to me it looks as if mostwould be covered by a belt or sash. It really doesn't detract from this magnificent tunic. No name can be seen, so that eliminates the research aspect. No tailors tag or name either so it makes it difficult to date exactly. The reverse of the gilded brass buttons bears the name of JENNENS & CO. LONDON, with a small Prince of Wales plume. This backmark existed in use from 1912-1924, until the firm was absorbed by Gaunt of London. So the possibility exists for WWI wear, and likely stocks of these beautiful buttons were not simply thrown awayonce Gaunt purchased Jennens, so they may have been installed in the1920's-30's. In either case, it is a beautiful uniform. Size about a 36.
